This iconic Ketchum home, once in disrepair, has been restored and transformed into a tranquil retreat in the heart of town. The challenge was to create privacy while maintaining interesting views from every window. We started by actually removing trees to strengthen the sense of open space and take advantage of the views to the surrounding hills. This also allowed more natural light into the property. Then we layered back in new plant material for screening and interest. The shape of the house creates a three sided courtyard open to Baldy. A natural flagstone patio with Creeping Thyme, trees, a natural water feature, and a fire pit, create a welcoming space any time of day. Another challenge successfully met was being responsible by reusing of existing stone, boulders, and landscape lighting in the new design. Trees are lighted during the snowy holiday season and many tourists stop to capture photos proving that this home has been re-integrated into the fabric of the community.
